Remarkable changes seen at Eagle Pass, the Texas site of chaotic illegal immigrant influx during Biden years

In a little more than two years, the scene at Eagle Pass, Texas, situated on the Rio Grande River, has changed dramatically, a new report by CBS News has revealed. Once the site of unchecked illegal border crossings that brought Elon Musk and RFK Jr, who traveled there to witness the chaos firsthand, today is the picture of calm and order.

CBS News reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez covered the pandemonium at Eagle Pass in December of 2023, a point in time when hundreds of illegals were crossing into the country on a daily basis. Border agents were overwhelmed by the influx at the time, and had little power to stop the record onslaught of illegal immigration due to then-President Biden's open border policies. Montoya-Galvez returned to Eagle Pass this week, and found that it looks almost like a different place entirely.

"During this entire trip, we have not seen a single migrant," Montoya-Galvez said in a report posted on social media. Also gone are the scores of illegals who were sleeping on the ground in Eagle Pass as they made their way into the country. Plus, drowning incidents have all but subsided, causing less strain on local first responders.

"The fire chief of Eagle Pass told us that during the Biden administration, at the peak of the border crisis, his team was responding to about three reports of migrants drowning every single day," Montoya-Galvez said. "Now, they're responding to one drowning every three months."

The vastly different conditions at Eagle Pass should come as no surprise given President Trump's emphasis on immigration enforcement. The Homeland Security Department said earlier this month that there have been zero illegal border crossings at the southern border for the last 11 consecutive months, counting March 2026. In contrast, more than 78,000 illegals crossed into the U.S. in March of 2024 under the Biden administration.

Below, watch the report from CBS News and see the difference at Eagle Pass since tougher immigration policies were implemented.
