Musk set to unleash huge spending push to boost Republicans ahead of midterms

Elon Musk is reportedly planning to wade back into politics in a bid to boost Republican candidates as the critical midterm elections in November approach, according to a new report from Axios. The world's richest man is preparing to resurrect his America super PAC, which was pivotal in providing fundraising and logistical support to President Donald Trump's campaign in the 2024 race.

The news comes as recent polling shows the Democrats could be in position to win control of the House of Representatives in November. Historically, the party of the current president tends to lose seats in the House during the midterm elections, meaning Trump's agenda for the second half of his second term is at stake. Indeed, a new poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University showed Democrats with a 7-point advantage over Republicans just a little more than three months from Election Day.

Musk clearly knows the stakes as he did in 2024 when he backed Trump, and his America PAC spent more than $260 million supporting Trump.

In addition to fundraising support, the America PAC will focus on grass-roots strategies, such as knocking on voters' doors and advertising through direct mail and digital platforms in an effort to reached voters who might not be prioritizing voting in the 2026 midterms, Axios reported, citing anonymous sources. 

The report was all but confirmed by James Blair, Trump's senior political adviser, who told Axios, "America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV [Get Out The Vote] operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country. We will again outsmart our opponents and ruthlessly execute our mission for the GOP between now and Election Day."

Republicans already have a huge financial advantage over the Democrat Party heading, which has been suffering financial difficulties, including the DNC being $2 million in debt, into the midterms. While the financial support has the potential to free up other Republican boosters to focus on strategies like television ads, America PAC's true impact will be in turning out voters, as it was so deft at doing in key swing states during the 2024 election. Although the America PAC has largely been dormant since the 2024 election, it has been posting on X, with many of its recent posts focusing on the importance of passing The SAVE America Act. 

"The president's political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top-notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we're excited to again be part of the team," America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo said.
