As the finances of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and her husband, Tim Mynett, have come under increasing scrutiny, the couple has dramatically revised Mynett's earning power and net worth in Omar's updated financial disclosure report for 2024.
The report shows Mynett now earned between $200 and $1,000 during 2024, a far cry from the $5 million to $30 million net with Omar and Mynett had reported previously. The New York Post was the first to report on the major changes to the updated disclosure. The couple now is reporting a negative net worth of -$80,000 to -$95,000 claiming they owe as much as $100,000 in credit card debt and a student loan, which goes back more than 20 years.
Back in April, Omar claimed "accounting errors" made her and her husband look like multi-millionaires. At the time she claimed her net worth was around $100,000. That number has been revised downward on the latest disclosure report. Around the same time, the couple's winery went out of business when questions were raised about whether it was producing any wine at all.
In early May, Republican state lawmakers in Minnesota tried to subpoena Omar for emails related to a government-funded school lunches nonprofit that was suspected of fraud. Omar blew off the deadline set by the oversight committee to provide the information and Democrats in the state legislature voted against subpoenaing the congresswoman, all but shielding her from formally testifying -- allowing her to avoid further scrutiny by state lawmakers.
