Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who left her role in the Trump administration at the end of June to spend more time with her husband after a cancer diagnosis, posted a video on social media giving an update her husband Abraham Williams' battle with what she described as a "one-in-a-million type of cancer."
Gabbard explained that Williams was suffering from back pain and doctors eventually discovered a rare tumor called a sacral chordoma on his tailbone. She said he underwent an eight-hour surgery to have the tumor removed and that, weeks after the operation, doctors were confident that they were able to fully remove the tumor as well as any cancerous tissue around it. The video shows clips of Williams being prepped to go into surgery, which Gabbard said was very invasive.
The video also shows some brief clips of the early moments of Williams' recovery, not long after coming out of surgery, and more recent clips of him undergoing physical therapy as his recovery has progressed.
"The reality is, the battle isn't over yet," Gabbard said. "He'll have to continue to get frequent MRIs to keep an eye on whether or not this cancer is coming back, either in the same place or in other parts of his body," she said in the video. She added that they are thankful to God "for being our peace and our strength" during the difficult time and praised all the medical professionals who have taken part in Williams surgery and recovery. The video ends with Gabbard wiping away tears as she and Abraham hug one another.
