Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard announce plans to resign from her post next month, becoming the latest member of Trump's second-term Cabinet to leave in recent months.
Gabbard said the decision to step down is tied to her husband's recent cancer diagnosis.
“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” Gabbard wrote in her resignation letter, which she posted on X. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle," she said.
Gabbard married Abraham Williams, a Hawaii-based cinematographer, in a traditional Hindu wedding in 2015.
She thanked Trump for the opportunity to lead the office and added that she was "fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks so that you and your team experience no disruption in leadership or momentum."
During her time as DNI, Gabbard was instrumental in carrying out the president's agenda, helping to root out DEI at the federal level and reducing the size of the agency in an effort to bring down costs.
Gabbard also declassified documents relating to the JFK and RFK assassination investigations, as well secret documents from the federal government's "Crossfire Hurricane" probe of Russia's purported impact on the 2016 presidential election.
According to Fox News, Gabbard revealed how members of the law enforcement and intelligence communities who were loyal to President Obama worked together to politicize the investigation, insinuate that Russia had affected the election outcome and, ultimately, undermined Trump's first term as president.
In her resignation letter, Gabbard emphasized the personal nature of her departure from the administration.
"Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage — standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns and now my service in this role," Gabbard said in the letter, referring to her time in the Army National Guard.
"His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge. I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position." Williams' cancer is reportedly an aggressive form of the disease. Below, watch more on Gabbard's resignation from Fox News.
