Susie Wiles out as White House chief of staff, Trump announces

President Trump announced Susie Wiles is being replaced effective immediately as his White House chief of staff, with advisor Stephen Miller being elevated into the role in the first major shakeup since the midterm elections.
Trump made the announcement Friday in a brief post on Truth Social. "I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026," the president said. "Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!"
Wiles, who was appointed to the position in the week's after Trump won the 2024 election, was Trump's longest-serving chieft of staff and the first woman in U.S. history to serve in the White House chief of staff role. Her dismissal comes three days after Republicans suffered a midterm election nightmare, losing control of both the House and Senate to Democrats. Trump didn't elaborate on what Wiles, who managed his 2024 presidential campaign, would be doing within his political organization.
"Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime," Wiles said Friday in a post on X. "I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First."
Wiles departure follows the resignation of Harmeet Dhillon on Thursday, helmed the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division since April 2025, handling the Trump administration’s probes of U.S. universities, hate crimes at houses of worship and election integrity efforts.
The New York Times reports Trump had been relying less heavily on Wiles in recent months, notably leaving her out of certain hiring decisions, including the hiring of Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary last month. Zacharia's tenure lasted a record-short five days. Earlier this year, Wiles revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. More recently, she said she'd made a full recovery and was cancer free.
Miller has been a close aide and advisor to Trump since his first term and is largely viewed as the driving force behind Trump's policies on curbing illegal immigration and deporting those in the U.S. illegally. For more on the story, watch the video below.
