Police in Baltimore are seeking help from the public to identify and apprehend six suspects in connection with the brutal beating of an elderly man that was caught on surveillance footage outside of a 7-Eleven convenience store.
The incident occurred on July 7 at nearly 4 a.m., authorities said, according to local TV station WBFF. Police have described the six suspects seen in the surveillance footage as "younger males" and have described the attack as an armed robbery. Police released the surveillance footage of the brutal attack on Thursday, but few other details have been made public.
The victim in the attack appears to be a 74-year-old white man, whom, the video shows, is quickly surrounded by several black males. The 74-year-old man attempts to defend himself, but eventually is overwhelmed as his attackers pummel him from all sides, and throwing objects like plastic crates as he lied defenseless on the parking lot blacktop.
In response to questions from The Rubin Report, Detective Niki Fennoy of the Baltimore Police Department said in an email, "The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment." Fennoy said the investigation is "open and active" and won't yet identify the victim because he is considered a witness in the case.
The disturbing footage shows the suspects physically beating the man at various points and attacking him with other types of weapons, which, according to police, included "a gray assault-style rifle and a sword."
Outrage mounted on Thursday as the footage racked up views on social media, not only over the horrifying nature of the attack, but also the virtual silence on the story from the mainstream media and politicians on the left. As Dave Rubin pointed out on X, "Not one Democrat in office will comment on this and mainstream media will ignore. Now flip the races and we’d have multiple cities on fire."
News coverage, even on a local level, has been noticeably scant and incurious in the week since the attack. Articles on the attack published by local TV stations WMAR and WBFF contained hardly any more words than the social media post by police seeking help from the public.
