The Supreme Court this week heard oral arguments challenging President Trump's executive order last year aimed at overturning birthright citizenship. According to numerous reports, the justices sounded skeptical about upholding Trump's executive order, with Ketanji Brown Jackson and Chief Justice John Roberts expressing doubt.
President Trump, who was seated in the first row of the courtroom for a portion of the arguments, reacted afterward criticizing the U.S. policy that he said is "STUPID enough to allow “Birthright” Citizenship!" in a post on Truth Social. Trump's stance on birthright citizenship has triggered a backlash from Democrats, and far leftists. But it wasn't all that long ago that the very position Trump holds on birthright citizenship in 2026 was a mainstream Democrat position.
Footage of Harry Reid, a longtime U.S. Senator from Nevada, speaking on the Senate floor in 1993 shows he was practically in lock-step with Trump's view on birthright citizenship today.
"No sane country would do that. No sane country would give illegals citizenship?" Reid asked, using terminology that has become verboten among progressives in today's political landscape.
“Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. Citizenship and a guarantee to have full access to all public and social services this society provides.”
U.S. Senator Mike Lee of Utah, a Republican, said in a post on X," Harry Reid was right." Reid went on to become Senate majority leader, a post he held from 2007 to 2015. Reid died in 2021.
Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's remarks at the oral arguments raised concerns this week. Jackson likened a non-citizen giving birth in the U.S. to an American tourist stealing a wallet in Japan, a line of thinking that had experts and pundits scratching their heads. "It's completely backwards," Dave said on Thursday's episode of The Rubin Report. "She's a far left activist who's not qualified." Watch the clip below to hear audio of her remarks
