Polling continues to show vast majority of Americans agree with Trump on voter ID

It's not even close -- a large majority of Americans, and in some cases, an overwhelming majority, agree with President Donald Trump that the U.S. should institute a voter ID law. That's according to a fresh polling analysis by CNN data guru Harry Enten, who broke down the numbers and declared, "This is something that is popular across the political spectrum."

Enten said the latest polling on the topic hasn't changed that much from previous results. Not surprisingly, voter ID requirements have support from 95% of Republicans. It's also a concept that has overwhelming support from independents at 77% -- which also happens to be where a broad cross-section of the American electorate stands in support of such measures. The polling shows that a voter ID law even has strong support on the left side of the aisle, with 62% of Democrats supporting the measure. 

However, Democrats on Capitol Hill refuse to support the effort to enact a voter ID law, with many of them still -- despite repeated polling showing strong support among their constituency -- denouncing the SAVE America Act as "Jim Crow 2.0," while a similar sentiment continues to echo through the mainstream media.

The SAVE Act also would require voters to provide documentation proving U.S. citizenship at the time someone registers to vote, a measure that has less support than requiring voters to show identification at the polls, but still is supported by 54% of Americans, a solid majority.

The most dramatic aspect of the polling highlighted by Enten, though, is whether U.S. citizens think it will be very easy or difficult to provide proof of citizenship to vote. Despite Democrats and the mainstream media constantly pushing a narrative that a voter ID law will disenfranchise women and minority voters by making it too hard to vote, an astonishing 90% of Americans believe they would be able to show proof of citizenship "very easily."

"When it comes to voter ID, the voters are with President Trump on this one," Enten said, summing things up. And yet, the SAVE Act continues to languish in the Senate. Watch Enten's breakdown below.
