A photo of Demi Moore on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is causing debate and sparking concern about excessive use of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, a topic that was discussed on the most recent episode of the Actual Friends podcast.

Moore, 63, was a '90s sex symbol, and known for being in impeccable shape for her memorable roles in such movies as G.I. Jane, Indecent Proposal, Striptease, Disclosure, and others. More recently, Moore starred in the 2024 horror movie, The Substance, which required numerous scenes of full frontal nudity. Moore was 61 at the time of the movie's release, and was clearly in great physical condition for the role.

Reports have surfaced in recent months that the Hollywood legend has been taking Ozempic, the wildly popular weight-loss drug. Photos of her on the red carpet at the SXSW festival in March began to cause alarm, and then the photos last week triggered a chorus of voices expressing concern about her physical condition, and that many other non-celebrities may be in similar condition.

"I've always thought Demi Moore was a beautiful, stunning woman. She's 63 now. And I have concerns right now over what I'm seeing," Sage Steele said on Actual Friends, pointing to a post on X in which The New York Post declared the actress' "toned arms take center stage on Cannes Film Festival 2026 red carpet." In the photo, Moore's upper body looks almost emaciated.

"You could say 'toned,' like The New York Post," did, Steele continued. "Or you could say she looks like a skeleton. And there are some issues and I'm concerned."

Dr. Drew Pinksy, said, "I am gravely concerned about the muscle loss associated with GLP-ones." Pinksy went on to say the rampant use of GLP-1 drugs in American culture, particularly by those who may not need them, is a cause for concern.

Jillian Michaels echoed that point, saying, "I'm seeing a trend -- obviously, we all are -- amongst women that are already fit that are taking these medications. And all I keep thinking about is: Who is prescribing this? These are super serious medications. They can cause spontaneous blindness, stomach paralysis, pancreatitis." Michaels said the unnecessary use of GLP-1 drugs is resulting in some women looking "skeletal" and "dangerously" thin, and doctors need to be more careful about weighing the costs and benefits of the prescribing them.

Dave Rubin questioned the headline used by The New York Post on X, which suggests to readers that Moore looks great, when in fact she looks frail in the photo. The Wall Street Journal this week published a story suggesting GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy are beginning to cause a frailty epidemic in the U.S., given that the drugs can cause rapid muscle loss that's equivalent to a decade of aging in less than a year.
