The NYPD announced Thursday that a suspect had been taken into custody in connection with Monday's snowball attack on police officers in Washington Square Park as a major blizzard that pummeled the East Coast was winding down.
Gusmane Coulibaly, 27, was apprehended "for assaulting our officers earlier this week," the NYPD announced on X. Earlier this month, Coulibaly was arrested for alleged attempted robbery on the NYC subway.
Three other suspects wanted in connection with the snowball attack were still at large on Thursday, according to The New York Post.
The snowball attack, which was captured on video from numerous angles and ended up sending several police officers to the hospital, was roundly denounced by current and former city and state officials, including NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch, who called the incident "disgraceful" and vowed an investigation.
One glaring absence from the chorus of denunciations was new Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who downplayed the incident say it merely looked to him like "kids throwing snowballs." Below, see the NYPD announcement on X.
