Call it the mother of all stupid bills.
Democrat lawmakers in New York passed legislation this week that does away with the terms "mother" and "father" in certain legal contexts, and replaces those basic words with woke-inspired nonsense.
The new law would make it illegal to refer to someone's parents as mother and father and would instead require referring to what has historically been known as a mother instead as a “gestating parent.” Under the new law, what everyone has long thought of as a father would become a “non-gestating parent," according to The New York Post. Proceedings that have historically been called "paternity cases" would be called "parentage" cases under the new law, which aims to make all terminology gender neutral.
The bill was sponsored by state Senator Luis Sepulveda, a Democrat from the Bronx, and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, a Democrat from Westchester, which is located just north of New York City. They say the terms mother and father have become outdated in modern society.
The bill got enough votes that it will be sent to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk for approval. But it went too far for at least one Democrat in New York, who spoke to The New York Post anonymously. “I have a word we can use for this," the unnamed lawmaker said. "Unnecessary.”
Republicans in New York roundly rejected the idea, despite being outvoted on the measure. State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar told the Post, “It’s an example of how out of tune the New York legislature is. It’s an unnecessary and wasteful use of time. This is a really weird group of elected officials."
Bruce Blakeman, a Republican running to succeed Hochul as governor, blasted the bill and said, “The insanity ends when I’m governor.” Hochul, who has referred to herself as New York's "first mom governor," dodged a question about whether she will sign the legislation, but indicated she would put it under consideration, the Post reported. Below, watch a clip from Fox News about the bill.
