The four astronauts on the Artemis II moon mission on Friday passed a distance of 100,000 miles from Earth on the epic voyage around the moon. The crew blasted off on Wednesday and spent the first day in space orbiting Earth, before the Orion spacecraft fired up the engines and began making its lunar run.

On Friday, NASA began releasing breathtaking photos of Earth shot by astronaut Reid Wiseman from the Orion capsule. See those below.

The mission was largely going smoothly in its third day, with the astronauts having to overcome an inconvenient problem with the toilet during the first few hours of the flight. The mission will take the four astronauts around the moon and then back home, carrying them more than 250,000 miles from Earth -- farther into space than any human has ever traveled before.

NASA is hoping the dark side of the moon, which the crew members will see with their own eyes, will provide some clues about the secret to life on Earth. Americans have been excited about the moon mission, NASA's first in 53 years. President Trump mentioned it at the beginning of his primetime address about the Iran war on Wednesday, and a little kid who watched the launch at Cape Canaveral and was interviewed there by CNN about why it was important to be present for the momentous launch. He cut right to the chase with his answer.

"We're going back to the freakin' moon, that's why," the kid told the CNN reporter, instantly pleasing everyone on social media. Watch below.
