Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi is suggesting Republicans are planning to tamper with voting machines during the 2026 midterm elections coming in November. Pelosi cites no evidence to substantiate such an inflammatory claim, and was not confronted by the interviewer about it when she suggested the possibility.
The shocking suggestion came during an interview last week on MS Now with Ali Vitali. "I wonder if you have concerns about the midterm elections themselves?" Vitali asked. "With this president and Republicans, who have no commitment to the rule of law and doing things in an appropriate way, we're ready," Pelosi said.
"We have to be on guard as to what they may try to do to the technology. They may try to creep into the technology and create a false count," Pelosi continued. Vitali never pushed back on such an incendiary claim about a political party possibly interfering with a fair election, instead asking only, "How do you guard against that?" Pelosi went on to give a meandering answer that centered on early voting and mail-in ballots.
The accusations against Republicans are particularly shocking given Pelosi's own role in trying to tamper with the 2024 election. Pelosi was among several high-ranking Democrats who, in the summer of 2024, pressured Joe Biden to drop his campaign for re-election after a disastrous debate performance against Trump. Biden eventually acquiesced and Vice President Kamala Harris was installed as the party's nominee, despite the Democrats not holding a nominating process.
Less than a month before the election, Pelosi touted the impact of her scheming during a podcast appearance, saying her efforts would ensure that Trump couldn't win a second term in the White House.
"Elections are decisions. You decide to win," Pelosi said on the Politics Weekly America podcast in 2024 just three weeks ahead of the presidential election. "I decided a while ago that Donald Trump will never set foot in the White House again as president of the United States."
Dave Rubin, reacting to the audio clip in the days after it was released, said, "That last line there, that is more evil than anything you've ever heard Donald Trump say. She is the evil authoritarian you have to watch out for."
Pelosi's declaration that Trump would never be president again at her discretion was eventually overruled by the American voters, who decisively swept Trump into office over the unelected candidate opposing him in the 2024 presidential election.
