Kamala Harris returns to campaign trail with hallmark cackle, woke talking points

Former Vice President and presidential also-ran Kamala Harris returned to the campaign trail in Detroit on Tuesday to stump for U.S. senate candidate Adbul El-Sayed, and pretty much picked up where she left off in 2024 right before being decisively defeated by Donald Trump.

Harris brought out many of the hallmark idiosyncrasies that made her 2024 run memorable and a failure, including her drunk-sounding cackle and word salads, discussions consisting of woke newspeak, like "birthing people," and, of course, a rant about DEI.

Awkwardness was also in the air as even left-leaning reporters questioned El-Sayed about why he was campaigning with Harris after not supporting her -- and actually endorsing the uncommitted vote -- in 2024. El-Sayed gave a testy answer about his support for Gaza, the source of the rift between him and Harris two years ago.

But the day really belonged to Harris. At one point Harris nodded approvingly as she was asked a question at a roundtable about "black birthing people. At another point Harris unleashed a rant about DEI, saying, “The attack on DEI is an attack on maternal care. An attack on DEI, to recognize diversity, equity and inclusion, is an attack by definition on maternal care. Including the need to protect black women in connection with their pregnancy, childbirth and their postpartum care." Even El-Sayed looked genuinely confused as to what her point was as Harris plodded through her meandering statement. 

Harris also criticized Mike Rogers, El-Sayed's Republican rival in the race, as well as President Trump. With just six weeks to go until Election Day, El-Sayed has had a slim lead over Rogers in several recent polls. Harris' appearance on the campaign trail also carries 2028 implications, as a poll released on Monday showed her as the top choice among Democrats for the 2028 nomination. 

In Detroit on Monday, perhaps one of the most memorable moments was when Harris followed up a statement of support with her signature laugh. “I’m here to support Dr. El-Sayed because on this subject, I know he will be a champion. And I have a right to say that,” Harris insisted, before slipping into an extended cackle. Watch that moment below.
