Ilhan Omar, Hasan Piker rendezvous in Minneapolis with a week ahead of Election Day

Embattled Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, aka Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, made a visit along with Hasan Piker to Omar Fateh's podcast on Monday evening in Minneapolis, with just about a week to go until the midterm elections. Omar is up for re-election in the House of Representatives and also the subject of a sweeping federal investigation into whether her naturalization as a U.S. citizen was predicated on immigration fraud.
That topic came up during the discussion as well as other predictable talking points, like white supremacy. Omar in the past has made racist comments including saying that people in America should "be more fearful of white men."
This time, Piker picked up on the theme.
“Another reason that white supremacist forces in this country have decided to target Minneapolis because of the successful Somali American community that has been able to thrive here," Piker said at one point during their conversation. “And we saw that with Operation Metro Surge. Donald Trump came out and wanted to punish a city.” Piker went so far as to accuse Republicans of being "terrorists."
Omar positioned herself as a victim and early in the discussion called out Fateh, who had a small American flag sitting in a mug on his desk, for not also having a Somalian flag. "“Am I the only one that noticed?” Omar asked, prompting a round of applause and laughter from the friendly audience. "Well, they're gonna notice online now," Fateh astutely responded.
The pair also sat on a couch, looking like two peas in a pod, and chatted in the green room before the show started and discussed their favorite Muslim candidates, with Omar declaring, "Islamophobia has gotten worse." Piker, who infamously joked about the U.S. deserving the 9/11 attacks, joked about how rural voters perceive himself, Omar and other Muslim candidates as loving what happened on 9/11.
Omar at one point also joked that she's being investigated and Piker is often criticized because of their good looks. Omar decided to appear alongside despite some Democrats objecting to her appearing with an incendiary podcast host who is known for a history of making anit-American and anti-Semitic statements. Watch a brief highlight from the podcast below.
