Fetterman says Mamdani -- not Trump -- is guilty of creating Constitutional crisis for vowing to defy Supreme Court ruling

U.S. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has subjected the nation to a Constitutional crisis, and said, contrary to a political and media "freakout" last year, President Trump has never been guilty of creating a Constitutional crisis.
Fetterman, perhaps the last sane Democrat in the party on a national level, told Kayleigh McEnany during an appearance on Fox news over the weekend that Mamdani's pledge to defy a Supreme Court ruling that was issued last week amounts to a Constitutional crisis. He contrasted that with the Trump administration, which he said has not defied a court ruling, let alone a decision by the nation's highest court, and pointed out that Trump has been repeatedly blamed for starting a so-called Constitutional crisis by radicals in the media and the Democrat party.
“That's a constitutional crisis -- when you have the leader of the country's largest city, then we're not going to follow or honor what the Supreme Court says,” Fetterman said.
The Supreme Court last week issued multiple rulings that gave Trump wins for his immigration agenda. One of those rulings rolled back temporary protected status for more than 350,000 Haitian and Syrian migrants who were let into the country during the Biden administration. Mamdani was quick to issue a statement saying New York City would not comply with the ruling and accused the top court of attacking migrants.
“The Supreme Court just sparked one of the largest attacks on immigrants in modern American history. In one fell swoop, thousands of Haitians and Syrians now risk losing the right to live and work in the country they call home,” Mamdani said of the migrants, many of whom have been allowed to live in the U.S. for fewer than five years. “To have people who frankly taught the world about freedom have their own freedom put into jeopardy by the actions of a Supreme Court and federal administration — it is not only cruel, it’s not something we will ever accept,” the mayor declared in a video statement as well as on the city's official website.
Fetterman warned that the extremist position being staked out by Mamdani on this and other issues is quickly spreading throughout the Democrat party. "That's the direction that our party is going." Watch the full interview with Fetterman below.
