A father whose daughter was severely injured when the vehicle she was riding in was hit by a big rig driven by an illegal immigrant appeared before a House committee on Tuesday and blasted Democrats' attempts at sympathy in what turned into an explosive hearing on Capitol Hill.
Marcus Coleman's 7-year-old daughter, Dalilah, was left permanently disabled by the crash, which occurred in California in 2024. Dalilah suffered numerous severe injuries including a fractured skull, broken femur and traumatic brain injury, according to Fox News, and spent three weeks in a coma. On Tuesday, he testified about his family's experiences at a hearing held by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement hearing on sanctuary policies across the United States.
"I reject your guys' sympathy to be honest with you. There's no way you guys are sorry," Coleman told members of the House. News cameras showed Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin looking on mostly expressionless as Coleman tore into them.
"Not one of you guys have ever sat there and seen me in the hallways and said, ‘Hey, sorry about your daughter.’ You guys do it right here where you guys are grandstanding on top of your soapbox," Coleman said. "This is when you guys care. Right here inside this room is the only time you guys care."
He said his daughter didn't deserve the fate she suffered in the crash caused by an illegal immigrant. "She didn't ask for any of this," the father said. "The people that jumped the fence did though. They knew exactly what they were doing. They still chose to move forward in that direction. And every day something's happening to somebody, and it is your guys' fault. I hold each and every one of you responsible for it, and I always will."
Coleman's gripping testimony in front of members of Congress comes a day after Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the emergency shutdown of hundreds of truck driving schools that have been operating fraudulently and allowing trainees, in many cases illegal immigrants, to pass their programs without being able to read or speak English.
Below, watch a portion of Coleman's remarks in which he criticized Democrats' sanctuary cities policies.
