Less than 48 hours from Election Day, U.S. senate candidate from Michigan Abdul El-Sayed appeared on 60 Minutes and opened up about his extremist views on why he supports boys and men playing in women's and girls' sports as well as why he's OK with men who identify as transgender women going in women's and girls' restrooms.

It was a shocking admission for a candidate to make so close to Election Day, but when asked about his stance on the issue by 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat, El-Sayed was unabashed about sharing his extremist position. "What happens with transgender kids on sports teams?" Douthat asked, suggesting rights were "in conflict" in the debate over whether biological males should be given access to femalse spaces like locker rooms and restrooms simply based on the gender they identify with.

El-Sayed disagreed with the entire premise, saying, "I think we manufacture these social issues."

He went on to suggest that because modern kids have smartphones with internet access, there's not that can be done to protect biological males from competing in female sports.

"You can get access to everything and anything in the whole world, all the world's information in your pocket. The notion somehow that you are going to prevent your child from being exposed to something that you may find disagreeable and that that is going to be because of school is so profoundly outdated because of course you have all the information and they have all the information," he said. He said so-called "culture war" issues are meant to distract from other issues.

El-Sayed raised eyebrows elsewhere in the interview when he was asked whether Palestine had a right to exist. A firm "yes" was the quick response. But when he was asked the same question about whether Israel has a right to exist, he waffled, saying, "Yes ... if," and went on to list several conditions be believes are necessary for Israel's existence.

Below, watch El-Sayed's remarks on transgender issues.
