Democrat lawmakers and pundits are continuing a fevered campaign against the Trump-backed Republican led Save Act, but the arguments they're making are at times crumbling under the weight of the tortured ways in which they oppose the proposed legislation.

The latest example occurred Wednesday night on CNN during a roundtable discussion on Abby Philip's show. Alencia Johnson, who describes herself as "a sought-after thought leader and cultural critic," declared that President Trump "is championing a bill that would take voting rights away from a lot of black people in this country."

But when pressed by Scott Jennings on how exactly the mandates proposed in the SAVE Act would take voting rights away from black Americans, Johnson couldn't come up with an example of how any American would lose the right to cast a vote. Johnson, stumbling over and over, continuously dodged the "how" part of the question, and instead resorted to echoing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's false claim that the SAVE Act is Jim Crow 2.0.

Jennings pointed to polling that shows voter ID laws have broad support in the U.S., saying, "76% of black voters think we should show an ID to vote, 80% of Hispanic voters, 83% of the American people. Are you saying that black voters are too dumb to know what’s good for them? It sounds pretty condescending to me." Watch a highlight of the exchange below.
