Dave Rubin asks Ron DeSantis about possibility of 2028 White House run

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appeared at the live "Florida Man" edition of The Rubin Report Thursday night in Miami Beach, Dave Rubin asked him whether he's planning to run for president again in 2028. 

"I suspect you know what the question will be," Dave said to DeSantis near the end of the discussion. "They know what the question will be, too," he added, gesturing to the live audience. DeSantis chuckled and said, "It's probably a question I only get asked 500 times a day."

Dave then asked if DeSantis thought he could use what he's achieved in Florida as a template for what could be achieved nationally. While DeSantis played coy and didn't give a definitive answer about whether he'd run again in 2028, he did provide a peek at what some of his campaign talking points might be should he mount another White House run. 

DeSantis said he made "identifying the pathologies of the left" one of his administration's core missions, adding that as governor, he's been effective at "isolating that and defeating the left in institution after institution, on issue after issue." His battle with Disney and his defiance of draconian COVID policies demanded by former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci are examples he gave of a cultural issue and policy issue that he was able to overcome for the good of Floridians.

Speaking more broadly about how the Republican party needs to operate moving forward, DeSantis said, "We kind of slept for 15, 20 years on the right, and the left took control of so many of these institutions throughout American life -- and I think polluted them." He said that Florida has managed to recapture some of the ground lost to radical leftists during his two terms as governor.

"If you're just saying, 'Stop. No more leftism,' that is not sufficient," he continued. "You need to recapture this ground. You need to roll back leftism and make sure that we have a free society."
