Bill Maher declares 'I'm not living in communist America,' says his 2028 vote is in play

In an interview over the weekend, Bill Maher said that he's not necessarily planning to vote for a Democrat in the 2028 presidential election due to the party's headlong spring toward socialism and communism in recent months. 

"I'm not living in communist America," Maher told Jonathan Karl on ABC's This Week. "I've read the quotes from the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America] platform from their own mouths. Don't tell me I'm not seeing what I am seeing," Maher continued. "They say things like, you know, takeover of key industries, government -- that's communism."

Maher elaborated on his problems with the direction his own party has been taking over the last year. "They're cowardly," he said, adding that the "party is being taken over now." When asked by Karl whether his vote in 2028 is up for grabs, Maher replied, "Yes, my vote is in play."

Maher, who recently hosted Vice President JD Vance on Real Time went on to say he finds it "odd" that Republicans whom he doesn't support are willing to come on his show and discuss the issues. Meanwhile, he said, Democrats who do have his support, refuse to come on his show. 

"The first thing I said to him [Vance] was, it’s so odd, isn’t it, that like, I didn’t vote for you and yet you guys come to the show and take your beating like a man," Maher said in the interview. “The Democrats don’t come. And yet they got my vote! “That’s just odd, isn’t it?”
