Arrests by ICE climbed to all-time high during Trump's 2nd term last month

Arrests made by ICE swelled to more than 49,000 in July, marking the highest monthly total for immigration arrests since President Trump returned to office in January 2025.

ICE took 49,571 suspects into custody last month, good for a 15% increase over the 43,021 arrests made in June, according to The Associated Press, and a 70% increase since six months ago. Increased cooperation with state and local law enforcement has reportedly helped bolster the arrest numbers, and ICE has begun arresting and deporting Haitian immigrants after TPS protections expired earlier this summer. 

On Monday, The DHS posted a thread on X listing names and containing photos of "dangerous criminals including pedophiles, gang members, drug traffickers, and violent assailants" from Haiti who have been deported in recent days. In the wake of the fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old mother in Virginia last week, ICE has stepped up arrests in and around Virginia and Maryland, saying that more than 1,300 arrests have been made over the last two weeks. A 19-year-old illegal immigrant has been charged with murder in the Virginia killing. 

In late June, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the department was aiming to double 2025 deportation numbers in 2026. The DHS deported 675,000 illegals in 2025, along with another 2.2 million who self-deported. Deportations often begin with arrests made by ICE. The department is still offering money and plane tickets out of the U.S. as an incentive for illegals to self-deport.
