A longtime 60 Minutes correspondent threw an immature temper tantrum in front of colleagues during a meeting with his new boss at CBS News on Monday, according to multiple reports.

In a meeting with Nick Bilton, who was appointed by CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss last week as the new executive producer of 60 Minutes, Scott Pelley came in hot and unloaded on his new boss, making a spectacle in front of his work colleagues. The New York Times based its report on what it said was leaked audio of the explosive meeting. Several other media outlets, like The New York Post and The Guardian, also reported on the spicy gathering.

Here are some of Pelley's choice quotes from the infantile tirade:

→ "She is murdering 60 Minutes. She does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it, and she’s been doing exactly that," Pelley said of CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss. "She has no qualifications for her job."

→ "You have slender qualifications for this job," Pelley said directly to Nick Bilton, his new boss.

→ “You wouldn’t do very well in a 60 Minutes interview,” Pelley said, again speaking to his new boss.

→ "Oh, please," Pelley interjected in response to his new boss saying, "I care so deeply about this institution."

→ “I’m not being rude. You know what was rude? Black Thursday was rude.” Pelley screeched, referring to CBS News parting ways with a handful of on-air broadcasters and other staff members last Thursday.

Pelley, 68, has been with CBS News for more than 30 years and is viewed by some as an elder statesman of American journalism, although at Monday's meeting he acted more like the surly teenager of American journalism. Despite his temper tantrum, Jeremy Barr, a media columnist for The Guardian, reported on X that Pelley "is still seen as a valuable member of the show."

Bilton, 49, a former New York Times tech columnist was announced last week as the venerable newsmagazine's new executive producer. His response to Pelley's outbursts during the meeting, according to the Times, was: “I have no problem taking a job in a place that I am not welcome in. I don’t think that will be the case. You are not going to intimidate me in front of this group of people. I want that to be clear.”

Pelley is prone to melodrama. He delivered a commencement speech at Wake Forest's graduation ceremony last year that ended up being widely mocked for being out of touch. Watch a clip below.
